On being alive...

The thing is, it shouldn’t take the death of one of your peers to remind you that you should be a better steward of yourself. But…

Last night, I found out that a man younger than myself, a mainstay in the Washington theater community collapsed and died. Last night. This guy had potential, he was very heavy though and didn’t get cast because of that.

I have been struggling with back pain all this week and I turned my ankle on Wednesday and have been hobbling around all week. I know that the reason that my back messed up again is because I ate my way through my mom’s surgery. I was worried and sad and bored and stressed… so I ate and ate and ate- as though her convalescence was some kind of holiday from self control.

I’m so messed up y’all. I know there has to be a better way… I just haven’t found it yet. I am still doing weight watchers and I am back on the wagon. I suppose that is something. I just don’t know what else I can do to get my mind right about this. It’s an addiction, clearly. I abuse food.

But I am alive, praise God. Every day that I wake up is another day to get it right. In church they asked us if there was anything that we were believing in God for – something so large and audacious that I could not do it without Him.

I think this might be it.

My back...

is still bothering me. I went to the doctor at the beginning of the week and had an xray. I havent heard anything. She sent me home with some motrin and some flexeril and told me to eat more fiber and get a mammogram ( really? nonsequitor, anyone?)

The next day was okay, but today has been a bear. I had trouble getting up and moving around has been hellacious. I am not pleased.

I am not going down like this! I am not going to end up on a cane before 80. I dont know what to do besides sit ups, but I'mma do something.

Back to it all...

Just sat back down to my desk after the first staff meeting of 2007 at Ye Olde. I really didn't feel like coming back today. The meeting was uneventful and rather tame. Thank goodness.

I am having bad stomach cramps - the remains of the holiday cootie my sister gave to my mom and I. Thanks Liz! I called the doctor and I am scheduled for an appointment tomorrow am. Hopefully it will run its course before then. I will have to see an associate of my Dr.'s and frankly
I've never had a good experience with any one of them. They never seem to care - I am sure that is because I am not " thier " patient. Anyway, I hope I am better by then.

There are too many pieces of paper on my desk and none of them mean anything to me right now. Is that bad?

I got Soul!!!

I went and had a Day O' Beauty at the Soul Day Spa and Salon here in DC. It's located near Howard University and it is about 10 minutes from my house. The place is great!

I was greeted by a lovely receptionist and escorted downstairs to have my nails and toes done. They offered me tea right away and lots of magazines. The person doing my nails was really sweet and kept offering me magazines. I was totally in the zone and didnt really need to have anything to read. I was sort of contemplating life and saying little prayers of thanksgiving.

The waxing tech was lovely - she made me laugh and although she smelled a little like cigarettes, she did a good job. My eyebrows look great ;)

After all that, I went upstairs to go get my hair done. I was planning to just get my hair trimmed and shaped. The sylists convinced me to get it pressed and styled. It looks real nice. It's so soft and long.

I went home and my mom was very happy to see my straight hair ( she's go hung up on it). She was shocked when I told her that there were no chemicals. That it was just blown out and pressed. All those years of putting chemicals in and doing damage and my hair looks just as lovely without them.

I miss my curls though. ;)

I will totally go back to the spa -it's a great place and so close!

Gonna get me some Soul.

My wonderfulwonderful young friend, Sir Fabulous Himself gave me a gift certificate for the Soul Day Spa here in Washington, DC. My sister gave me hair care products, a great hairdryer and some accessories. I get it, I get it! Fix my hair!

I have been thinking for a while that my hair is in need of help and I was too lazy and unwilling to do anything about it. However, since I decided that I would be taking better care of myself in 2007... I thought I should get the jump on it and get my hair did. I made an appointment for a cut and blow out, mani and pedi for Friday. Which is just in time for the new year and tech week of the dinner theatre show. ( I totally forgot about that!)

Ah well, back to the court shows...
